Dada's Bwu Car

We've been sick around here. Lily had the flu for about a week and Jeremy had some sort of stomach bug...but now we are back in business!!! These pictures are from the first day Lily felt well enough to go outside. She loves playing in "Dada's bwu car."

No-NO EGGS!!

At Lily's one year check-up, our pediatrician gave us the go-ahead to try all those high-allergen foods you are supposed to avoid the first year (berries, peanut butter, egg whites, honey, etc). So, last Wed. night I cooked Lily up her first scrambled egg for dinner! She liked it ok, but wasnt all that excited about the texture I think. A few minutes after she was done eating, she broke out in hives around her mouth and eyes. I called the pediatrician immediately, and they told us to give her benadryl and bring her in right away. We took her in and had to wait over an hour to be seen! While we were waiting, she threw up EVERYTHING all over her dad. Finally we got in to see the Dr., and he gave her a steroid shot (to prevent late-onset reactions) and gave us a prescription for Epi-pens. We will be going to an allergist next week, but until then we are to strictly avoid all egg products and we are going to stay away from those high-allergen foods just in case (Peanut butter, etc).

Jeremy and I still cant believe our daughter has a severe (possibly NOT severe, but we are assuming right now for safety's sake) allergy. The episode was a little traumatic for us, but we are thankful that it wasnt more serious and that we knew exactly what caused the reaction. We will have more answers after we visit the allergist, but for now, we daily remind ourselves where the epi-pens are and go over how to use them. If you are around ever, dont let me forget to show you where they are and what to do in case of an emergency.

By the way, Lily is completely FINE now - the day after the reaction, she had dark circles around her eyes and was pale and tired, but has rebounded completely and we have not had any other problems. She is her normal happy, "toddler" self! So dont worry, but NO eggs in this house friends!!

PS - Here is a good article on egg allergies.

8 Months

This post is gonna be random. I have been trying to find time to put together some good posts, but I have resigned myself to the fact that its just not gonna happen. Things have certainly taken a turn for the busy.

Lily is 8 months old now! Time is flying by. I thought we'd never get through those first few months, and now I cant keep up!

She is doing new things almost every day. Randomly this weekend she started clapping, and is ALMOST CRAWLING! We had little warning; I thought we were a few weeks away! We had some issues this past week with multiple, unrelated rashes, and went to the Dr. two times (AAHHHH!!!), but I think everything is worked out now. Pray for her little body to conquer these invaders that have messed her up a little, and for her mama to eat the right things to help with this.

She has been rollingall over our living room for a month at least, but now has figured out how to roll into other rooms.

Curiosity:
She chose a John Piper book to read...hmmm....maybe we have a future reformed theologian on our hands :)
